The 162nd New Oaks Stakes took place over the mile and a half Suffolk Stakes course at Newmarket on Thursday 13th June 1940 and was won by Godiva (7/4 fav), by Hyperion out of Carpet Slipper trained by Willie Jarvis, who won by 3 lengths in 2 mins 30.40 secs. The winner won £2,457 (Equivalent to £147,400 in 2017) and there were 14 runners.
